The Sustainable Power and Energy Center (SPEC) Research Summit brings together guest speakers from leading universities, national laboratories, industry, and research organizations, alongside UC San Diego SPEC-member faculty and researchers working across sustainable power and energy. The Summit started with a prospective of SPEC’s research efforts given by Dr. Ping Liu, the Director of the Center.

Guest speakers like Dr. Jun Liu, University of Washington, shared perspectives and recent advances in areas including lithium-ion batteries, while Amanda Matheson, EDF provided an industry perspective on battery energy storage systems in practice. UCSD faculty highlighted research and initiatives from across the university, showcasing SPEC’s work in battery materials, energy systems, advanced manufacturing, and emerging energy technologies.

One of the cornerstones of the Summit is the Student Pitch competition in which students present quick presentations on their research. This year, our very own Wenlin Yan, won 3rd place for her presentation on anode-free all-solid-state Na-S batteries.
